Antarctic Like Adventure

The wind was blowing and the afternoon air was crisp as the snow delicately glided to the ground. After a hurried lunch my family, the Elliott’s and the Mabins gathered to make a life like igloo.

Gathering up BIG fish crates we all worked together to pack them full with snow. This formed `snow bricks’ placing these bricks in a semi circle the igloo slowly but surely grew and grew in size. Gradually the bricks met in the middle to form a roof.  We patted and molded the bricks together with extra snow so that the inside was as snug as a bug.

We needed an entrance!  So carefully we lifted the big snow bricks into place so that there was a tiny entrance (tunnel) just the right size for us to fit through.  We had to be extra cautious because the tunnel was very fragile.  We finished just in time for a ferocious blizzard like storm.  We all sheltered in our marvelous igloo.  It was as warm as toast inside though our fingers were numb from all the hard work!

I wonder how long this shelter will survive the frost and rain?
